It is usually permanent and your brain can definitely learn to tune it out. I did and I live a normal life again. Unfortunately, if there was something in your ear, doctors can see that and they would not have neglected anything being in your ear, therefore it is safe to say that the ringing is noise-induced. It only really takes one time to bring tinnitus upon yourself, despite your careful habits. Agreed with the Dr.

Such are the dangers of being around very loud noise, and it would be a great idea to wear ear plugs from now on when you know you'll be around noise so the problem doesn't get worse.
