Try simply staying away from caffeine, salt, alcohol, cigarettes, aspirin, stress and fatigue. Many people get relief from their tinnitus by using tinnitus maskers, such as wave machines or soft soothing sounds by their bedside when they are going to sleep. There are ear worn tinnitus maskers that are available as well and you can get these through an audiologist. Some people find some relief using some biofeedback techniques and relaxation exercises. Tinnitus treatment is varied because the causes of problems that result in tinnitus are also varied.
Be sure to get a complete medical evaluation, inclusive of a complete audiological evaluation.
Check out the American Tinnitus Association website at http://www.ata.org for more information.
Good luck.
