God, that sucks. My dad has labrinthytis which is very similar. It’s also similar to meniere’s disease. Tinnitus is basically almost the same thing as those two, except that it is not as serious. Those other two are more chronic. Do you get vertigo? it makes him get all loose and dizzy and puke among other things. It sometimes lasts for up to 4 days. He takes regular medication for it. I hope you’re under treatment too. Should take PREVENTIVE treatment as well as treatment for when you get the attacks. Medicine intake should be regular. He likes to seat in a dark place with no sounds when he gets it. I’ve read that there are a couple of things that are risk factors such as alcohol, obesity and hypertension so it helps if you keep a STRICT balanced diet. If your tinnitus doesn’t go away after 6 months, then it’s possible you have chronic tinnitus. I really do hope you are managing well, because it can be very complicated and I can see how my dad struggles with it. I really wish your case isn’t as chronic but if it is maintain your diet and take your preventive medicine on a regular basis, please. Good luck to you.
I don’t have it but I know 2 people who do. From what I know, it is very hard to deal with. One of them uses a white noise machine to help him sleep and he also takes some herbal things (I don’t know what they are) to alleviate the symptoms. You might try checking with your health food store or online. I can imagine that it drives you nuts at times.
Tinitus is usually cause by ingredients found in cold medicines. Consitent ringing of the ear might be caused by an ear infection or some malfunction in the inner parts of your ear. seeing an ear doctor is the best answer
You can try lipoflavanoid but you probably have tried it
Licopene

I used to get it when I played in my band- it was an occupational hazzard, but at times it did get bad and I played bass, right next to a giant cymbal
I was lucky because I grew tolerant to the noise and eventually after years away from the band, it went away
There are so many sites on tinnitus
Also try some support groups because I know there are some-
even look for people to write to on Yahoo groups and other places like myspace groups
I have had this problem for about 15 years myself.
Usually brought on by loud noise that damages certain nerves in the inner ear, but then can be triggered by stress.
Keep a diary of when it is worse, check out what stress levels/reason for stress you may of had in the week before it is at its worst, then try somehow to reduce the reasons/causes of stress.
As far as I know, there is no cure for this, as the nerves are damaged, but by reducing your stress levels you can have "good" days.
Good luck.
