The other night I was alone in my room and I heard this whirring noise distinctly and directly beside my left ear (NOT inside the ear). It sounded like one of those long straw-like toys I had when I was a kid where you wave it in circle over your head and it makes a loud whirring noise. It was very abrupt and hasn’t happened again.
Tonight my best friend who lives next door described the exact same issue..also directly but not inside her LEFT ear.
The whirring lasted for less than 3 seconds and like I said has not happened again.
I’ve heard of tinnitus but the symptoms do not match what happened to us. I’ve searched all over the internet from medical causes to paranormal causes and I haven’t had any luck.
Does anyone have any clue as to what this could have been?

Edit: It is NOT an ear infection.

I want to go to college to be an Occupational Therapist. But, the problem is that I have arthralgia, severe allergies, moderate asthma, and tinnitus. Heck, I get occupational/physical therapy myself! I want to be an occupational therapist because I know what it feels like to be in extreme pain and to be injured. But do you think my health, especially my arthralgia would make me not good for the job? I mean, sometimes I’m fine, but other times (like right now) I’m in so much pain that I can hardly move. But I suck it up and move as best as I can. My doctor said that I have a high Rh factor and a boarder line ANA so its a big possibility that I can/will develop moderate to severe arthritis in a few years, but I don’t want that to stop me from my dream job. But for now I’m just in the beginning stages of a disease that will ruin my life. What do you think? Thanks!

and my ears feel clogged. I also seem to have frontal sinus pressure. New carpeting was installed in the beginning of Dec. but only in bedrooms and family room. The rest is tiled and wood. Could the carpet be the culprit? I have opened the doors and windows many times to air it out. I do know that the carpet is by Martha Stewart and is a green label carpet which is supposed to be healthier.

Tinnitus….the ringing in the ears. What is the cause. There must be a simple answer, right? Anybody have it and found a way to make it go away? The kind I mean is the high pitched steady ringing, or hissing sound. Thanks for your answers.

More than a couple months? More than a couple years?
I know in some cases it goes away after a few days if it’s noise induced.
But what about the other cases? Read about someone who had it for 15 years and then it went away???
