is pulsating tinnitus anything to do with a low thyroid?

i have been told i have pulsating tinnitus and i read somewhere that it is to do with a low thyroid count.does anyone know about this?

Tinnitus could be due to hyperthyroidism as well as hypothyroidism.
What happens is that when you have thyroid problems, you may develop an increased blood flow through the jugular vein, which is the largest vein in the neck. The jugular vein carries blood from the brain back to the heart. In so doing, it travels along the middle ear. The middle ear then hears the turbulent blood flow anywhere in the course of the jugular vein as a hum or a noise. Thus, you perceive a sound even though there is no external source.
The noises associated with pulsatile tinnitus include low-pitched thumping or booming sound and a high-pitched clicking noise.
So get yourself checked. If you do come to know the real cause, you should consider yourself very lucky as you will stand a very good chance of not only controlling your thyroid gland activity but also be able to get rid of your tinnitus which generally does not leave by its own and hardly has any good medications for, at least with the conventional line of medicine.
Valium, Xanax and Klonopin are benzodiazepine drugs that many doctors prescribe for tinnitus. These are conventional medications which achieve only limited success in tinnitus relief, and usually their bothersome side effects such as dry mouth, blurred vision, and constipation often discourage use.
They are addicting to varying degrees and cannot be used continuously for a long period of time. They are helpful in reducing tinnitus symptoms and aid in sleeping. Valium is the most addicting of these and is not used often for this reason.
Xanax is very popular and is prescribed often for tinnitus. However, the ATA (American Tinnitus Association) report on medications that cause tinnitus lists Xanax as causing it in 6.6% of cases.
There is actually no cure for tinnitus with the conventional medicine. Actually, since last many years, the onus has been on the herbal industry to provide relief, if any, to tinnitus sufferers.
Tinnitus is usually due to damage to the microscopic ends of the hearing nerve in the inner ear. Perfect hearing is possible only if these nerves remain healthy and any damage to these nerves results in tinnitus or hearing impairment.
Some herbal remedies exist which can be used to support all body systems involved in helping the ear to perform its tasks of clear hearing and balance, as well as the circulatory, cardiovascular, and nervous systems.

• Ferrum phosphoricum (Ferrum phos. D6) is a homeopathic biochemic tissue salt which supports the absorption of iron in the body. The protective myelin sheath which surrounds all nerve tissue needs iron to supply this vital nutrient to the nerve cells it encases.
