I’m 21 years old and I never listen to any loud music or any other loud noises. In fact I’m really careful because I’m studying to become an audiologist. I don’t even own an ipod.
I don’t have any hearing loss. This ringing started after an illness.
is it normal? Will it ever go away?

What was the illness? It might affected your ears although its not really mean that caused your tinnitus. There could be something else, as far as I know the main caused of tinnitus is the loud noises and loud music which is loud enough to irritate our ears. I suggest you seek for doctor’s advice and check up. It could be something else.
Your illness may have caused some sort of high pressure in your inner ear which caused the ringing. Go see a doctor and he’ll refer you to a specialist.
This is my own experience about how to cure tinnitus, I’ve experienced tinnitus, I consult a doctor and the doctor giving the drug, but not cured, I am seeking information about how to cure tinnitus in the Internet, I finally bought Thomas Coleman’s ebook on http://www.tinnitus.jhocom.com, I follow all the instructions, within 2 mounth, my tinnitus was cured. I can confidently recommended this ebook if you really want to cure tinnitus permanently.
Reading from your question, you are not doing anything unusual to suffer from such condition. It maybe a sign of something more sinister than you realize. I’d recommend you consult with your family doctor to find out if there is any under lying problems.
Meanwhile, there are few things you can try without consulting with a doctor. There is an excellent article, "Tinnitus Home Remedies" which outlines some of the things you can do to alleviate the symptoms. You can check out the article at http://tinnitushomeremedycures.blogspot.com/
I hope this helps and good luck with your dream of becoming an audiologist.
