I have been reading up on Tinnitus, because I have a ringing sound in my right ear.?

Should I get this checked by a doctor? Sometimes I have a bad case of a ringing in my right ear only, and sometimes, I don’t have a ringing sound.
Is this normal? Should I get checked?
