How do you know if you have tinnitus? Ringing in my ears.?
Recently I experienced ringing my ears briefly, almost every night, or at least once a week. It’s for a short time.
Today for the first time it wont stop, it started about 2 hours ago and it is coming on and off. I might just be paranoid and imagining it sometimes, but I’m wondering if I have tinnitus and what causes it. Could I possibly be going deaf…I’m 18. Thanks in advance.

Tinnitus is a symptom of possible damage to your ears. It can occur after exposure to loud noises. ( motorcycles, gun shots, loud music, rock concerts, power tools, lots of people yelling in a confined place..ect.) So have you been exposed to that kind of stuff? If so, start protecting your ears.
I "suffer" from tinnitus. The ringing sound I hear is exactly like the sound when you turn on a tv (excluding anything that comes out of the speakers of course). As for the volume of the sound I hear, it’s loud enough to be noticed in a quiet room…yet low enough not to be heard when talking to someone. Some days a worse than others – especially when I have a cold or the flu or when I’m dehydrated.
I have had tinnitus since I can remember and my hearing has been fine till I started working with noisy equipment. My hearing isn’t what it used to be… but it’s still about 95%. I believe it will return to normal once I stop working in noisy environments.
I have read that the tiny hairs inside the ear of a sufferer are overly sensitive and so send the signal of a high pitched sound to the brain. I think there is more to it than that but that’s all I remember. A web search would give you more info.
I hope my experience has been some help
