Could tinnitus be a symptom of something more serious?
I have noise in my ear that is always loud and when I exercise it gets really loud and anytime I do physical activity it starts to just thump and I get a headache. Could this be a sign of something more serious than simple swooshing in ears. I went to the doctor and he said my hearing is fine and so I am getting a MRI, but I am scared. Could this be something serious? I am only 16 years old and this just started happening like 2 months ago.

Hi Lexi,
Don’t worry. This is ‘pulsatile tinnitus’. The tinnitus, or ringing in the ear is caused by blood pressure, especially during exercise:
http://www.tinnitussymptom.org/unilateral-pulsatile-tinnitus/
when you exercise you blood pressure and heart rate change so that would be why the noise is different – your putting a bigger pressure on the part of your body that connects your brain to your ear (hence more noise)
the headache part is a bit unusual though – maybe you need to breath more or something wiht your workouts, you should not get THAT much pressure in your head when working out
tinnitus is a annoying but unless its starts to sound differently then you have nothing to worry about
and dont stress over it, my tinnitus has been constant for years but you learnt to deal with it
