I’m age 17, male.
Last week on Thursday, around three in the morning, I was awake watching television, and randomly I noticed a ringing sound in my ears. At the time I was smoking pot, and thought that It might have just been the fact that I was in a state of euphoria, so I ignored it, and eventually went to sleep. When I woke up the next morning, I got up to go turn on the tv set, and noticed when I did, I heard a constant ringing sound in my ears again. At first I thought It was my television set making the noise, due to it being broken or audio damaged or something? I mean, the tv is kinda old. The ringing noise didn’t fade away and it got to the point that it was so annoying, I turned the television set off. I then went down stairs, to the other television set, and the ringing then began to happen again. After discovering that both tv sets we’re having the same effect on my ears, I was very confused for the reason why, cause I’ve watched tv & movies for years, and never ever noticed this.
I then came to the thought, thinking that maybe I was around the tv too much and needed to go outside for a while, and take a break from it? When I went outside, the ringing noise seemed to fade away and I came to the thought, thinking that maybe the only thing I needed was to get away from electronics for while? After being outside that day for over 7 hours, I came back inside to turn on the television set, only to discover the ringing continuing and somewhat worse. It didn’t make any sense to me?
I then started thinking maybe I was sensitive to noise or something? Then after a while of avoiding the tv, the ringing started occurring even when I was around silence. This kinda freaked me out. So I started coming to the assumption that I might have had a ear infection, like I had experienced many years ago when I was very young. So I went to the doctor and they said my ears we’re fine and that their was no ear infection. This scared me, not being able to get a for sure answer about the ringing in my ears.
So I started searching online, and began to discover something called Tinnitus. The name Tinnitus made me feel paranoid right away, after me seeing that movie with Ron Livingston, Music Within, after seeing him come back from war with hearing problems and then going deaf.
I started thinking of what could have caused it? I was thinking it was maybe me listening to my MP3 headphones too loud, but It just didn’t seem possible, cause I’ve listened to my MP3 many times at low volume and sometimes high volume, and never experienced any hearing problems, but then again I can’t be for sure?
May I point out that I’m wanting to become a filmmaker, and for about a month now, I was writing a screenplay, what I was putting all my energy into, causing me to drink more caffeine than usual (im very addicted, love caffeine), smoke more cigs, pot, and listen to music alot to get my creativity going. I started finding out that caffeine, nicotine, smoking period, and loud music could cause Tinnitus. So I stopped drinking caffeine, smoking cigs, smoking pot (Marijuana seems to intensify the ringing), and listening to my MP3. The ringing still kept happening. Then I started hearing about Tinnitus, being caused by poor diet. So I tried to make my diet as healthy and natural as I possibly could, but nothing changed, the ringing became more louder and annoying.
What could this ringing in my ears be? Is it Tinnitus? Am I gonna go deaf or crazy from this constant ringing? It’s very irritating, and even before the ringing, I suffered from insomnia, and the ear ringing is causing my insomnia to get much worse. This ear problem is really stressing me out, questioning what’s in store for me in the future, I don’t know how much longer I can rake the ringing, and am almost leaning towards the idea of suicide. Which trust me, I don’t want to do! I just don’t wanna suffer like this! What should I do? I feel very hopeless, alone, and in mental pain at the moment. I feel very trapped! Will this pass? Could caffeine, smoking, pot, music, insomnia, or stress cause this?
