Hi, I’m not sure if I’m overreacting here but I think I may have tinnitus. My ears ring 1 to 3 times a day. The ringing only lasts maybe 5 seconds max but I never used to have it before, and I’ve read that tinnitus can become completely permanent and drive some people to suicide. Do normal people experience this too? Any responses would be great thanks. (By the way I do suffer from anxiety which may have caused it, and I do often overreact to symptoms. I’m 18 and never listen to loud music/ go to loud festivals. I look after my ears).

This question probably sounds really dumb but I’m really worried. I hear a very faint high pitched sound in my ear at night in my bedroom and can’t decide if I’m imagining it or not. I’ve never been to a rock concert and never have music up loud, but I have a history of hypochonriasis and anxiety, often googling symptoms and thinking I’ve got certain diseases and conditions. I’ve researched tinnitus and it looks like a horrible lifelong condition, I’m so worried if got this. Sometimes the sound seems to go away and I only hear it at night. When I went into the bathroom I didn’t think I could still hear it. I’m driving myself crazy and getting quite upset, am I imagining the sound? A few months ago I thought I was wheezing at night and went to the doctors thinking I’d got asthma but had full tests and all but I didn’t have it. I know it sounds stupid but I have an anxiety problem and it’s debilitating. Wish I could just relax. Any responses woulld be great thanks, thanks for your time.

I am being checked out for meniere’s disease. I just had 2 episodes of vertigo. besides that -white noise and days where i just feel queasy and a bit off kilter. I am afraid it will be meniere’s which leads to hearing impairment. Has anyone been diagnosed? How did you have your first symptoms. Has anyone had episodes of viertigo and tinnitus and have it be nothing? I am VERY worried and starting to obsess. Help get me off this tilt o’ whirl!
I am getting an ENG did it induce an eposode for you? Anything like diet changes that can help? My 3kids are 2, 5& 6yrs and even a mild day can be hard for me. The meclozone just makes me want to sleep. I’m 34 and this has come out of no where! Thanks for letting me vent. I’ll get thru it and it won’t kill me at least!

Hi,
So I’m probably going to get a physical at the doctors soon, but I just wanted to know what you all think. Lately I haven’t been able to fall asleep and I have been staying up usually past four in the morning still barely feeling tired and then when I finally go to sleep, I sleep in, but I’m still tired throughout the day. My breathing has also seemed irregular. It’s harder for me to breathe when I am laying down. I always feel weak throughout the day and a couple of days ago, I had a really bad headache. Last night when I was in the kitchen I heard something make a weird noise in my ear, and I’m not sure if this is tinnitus but that is one of the symptoms of being anaemic. Lately I have also not been hungry for any dinner and I never finish eating it if I do, but I’m not sure if I have just been snacking a lot or if this is loss in appetite. I have also had back pains these past few days. So do you think I am anaemic, or could this be something else? Please help me, all answers are appreciated!!
I’m not sure if this matters, but I’m 15 years old, 5′6, and probably around 130lbs.
Thankyou so much in advance.

My symptoms are severe ringing in the ears (tinnitus) and pain. Its in both ears but worst in the left.
My MRI was normal and so were my hearing tests.
I have no fluid or inflammation in my ears. My ear drum looks normal and there is no infection.
I’m a 21 year old female. My docs can’t figure it out.

for a quarter of a year:
regular headaches and severe migraines, dryness of mouth, ears popping, clogged up feeling in one of my ears and bad tinnitus, grogginess and inability to think straight.
Symptoms started exactly when I moved home quarter of a year ago. Fine before then. If I go away the symptoms disappear and if I return they reappear. Doctor does absolutely nothing. Contacted environmental health department of council – did absolutely nothing. Carbon monoxide detector doesn’t go off. Someone tested living room (only) for carbon monoxide (CO) and found nothing.
Please is there like some professional who can test the air for poisonous gas? I really need to eliminate this possiblity – that some sort of gas is in the air – but I don’t know who might do such a service. (Obviously there are many types of poisonous gas other than CO)
Thank you for taking the time to answer my question. Unfortunately, since asking this question things have developed:
I phoned the National Grid and they have now told me that the person they sent round in July did not test for CO (only methane gas). I am going to have blood tests in one hour and they will be sent to hospital. The doctor didn’t test me before because I had told the doctor that the guy had tested for CO and hadn’t found anything. But he didn’t test at all – he just said he did.
If the blood test show high levels of CO then I have suffered for the last month because of the gasman’s incompetence I now have some tinnitus and permanent hearing loss and prolonged exposure to CO may have caused permanent brain damage.

I went to a loud concert a couple of years ago, and my ears have been ringing ever since, but occasionally my right ear will feel slightly plugged and ring. After I feel like there’s drainage. Is this another symptom of tinnitus? Or is something more serious wrong?

Hi. I’m looking for an anonymous medical opinion (though reach out please if you are an ENT around DC!).
I have tinnitus, hearing loss, steadily worsening otalgia. The symptoms fluctuate, and started around October of ‘07. I had a bad habit of drying/cleaning my ears with a soft tissue daily, sometimes multiple times a day. After a while I connected the dots and stopped that, and while the symptoms have been reduced, they are still present. Recently, after neomycin/cortisone drops, I have developed more otalgia around the mastoid.
I have seen two GPs, two ENTs, and an ENT P/A. Diagnoses have varied (SNHL, TMJ, OE, in that order, with allergies interspersed). However, no one has done much diagnostic work beyond a cursory otoscopy, tympanometer (A-type, 10/07), and hearing test (slight HF loss). I keep hearing my right eardrum (the symptomatic ear) "looks fine." Can looks deceive here? This is awful! Where can I go from here on this? Is it too much to ask for more diagnostics?

Recently, I’ve been experiencing a weird noise in my right ear – it’s not just background noise, because it’s still there when i put my fingers in my ears to block out any other noises. I’ve only really been able to hear it when I’ve been going to bed at night (when there’s near silence and I’m tired), but after a severe headache earlier this week, it’s spread to my left ear, and it’s a lot louder.
From what I’ve researched, the symptoms are VERY similar to tinnitus, however in virtually all the cases I’ve read about, the sufferer is aged 40 and upwards. I’m only 16.
Is it tinnitus? and if so, does anyone know how i can treat it?
Many Thanks
