what causes tinnitus

My mom is almost completely deaf now, and I’m afraid the same thing is going to happen to me. It would be devastating to me, because I want to be a musician! I’m doing some research, but I thought I would ask on Yahoo too. My mom drinks alot of diet coke with aspartame, (Nutrasweet). That might have caused her deafness. At work I have been drinking too many soda’s with aspartame, becuase there are no alternatives, and I’m diabetic, and water gets really boring after awhile. So I’m cutting down, but I want to find out what causes Tinnitus, and make sure that I prevent it. I also have fans blowing in my house because of the heat and I’m paranoid about it making me deaf, because my grandma’s dog went deaf because of sticking it’s head out the window.
My mother started drinking diet coke with aspartrame in the ’80’s. She has always been a heavy drinker of diet coke. Her hearing started to fade away I believe at a much higher rate than normal hearing loss, unless she has been exposed to very loud noises that I don’t know about. She’s about 65 now, and her hearing is so bad that she has to read your lips most of the time, and it’s very difficult to talk to her on the phone. I have read that aspartame caused this. Saccharin was controversial because they said it caused cancer in laboratory rats, but according to www.saccharin.org saccharin was removed from the cancer causing list by congress. But I’ve heard nightmare stories about Nutrasweet, and I may be seeing the results of this first hand. This is serious. My Mom can’t hear! Why??

Can Tooth infection cause tinnitus?

I got tooth infection because of a wistom tooth, and my ear ringing all the time, feel pressure in my ear and got headache too. My dentist suggest me to take out the wistom teeth since he think it cause my ear ringing and headache. anybody had the same experience? does the ear problem goes away after the teeth took out?

I’ve been getting occasional tinnitus, but I haven’t been to rock concerts, night clubs and don’t work in a noisy work environment.

I have a constent ringing in my ears I believe was caused by my excessive use of my Mp3 player. I have thrown it away and am now doing my best to avoid loud noises to prevent my tinnitus from getting worse. I was just wondering if it’ll get better after a while or if this pitch of ringing will be permanent if not lessen. (yes, I know throwing an mp3 player away is a waste, pls don’t comment on that, I want an answer to my question) And yes, I know it was stupid to listen to loud music without considering the consequences, just please, no insults. I just want an answer.

I used to play the drum set in 6th and 7th grade and didn’t wear ear plus for 10 or so times but I beat the living crap out of the drum set which left me with a ringing noise in my ear but it was not permanent.

Next I have had trouble with wax in my ears and was wondering maybe if it is caused by wax. The Ear and Nose Specialist said that I just have tinnitus from noise but i feel as if there is something in my ear. They said I am still in the normal hearing for my age and I really want it to go away.

Anyone have any ideas of if it is Noise-induced tinnitus. P.S: I rarely listen to music on my ipod and I have only been to a few dances for about 2 hours each but stayed away from the speakers. Please help me
