Can I have documented tinnitus and still get hired on as a firefighter?

Tinnitus is caused from stress or damage to nerves, and sensitivities to certain food ingredients (also these factors contribute to insomnia). As long as it does not detract from your hearing ability, it should not be a problem. You will have to pass a department physical prior to hiring, just inquire ahead.
