Can Computer Fans In My Desktop Always Running About 3 Feet Away From Me Cause Ear Ringing or Tinnitus?
Hello. Yes, I have ringing in my ears or tinnitus. I am not a medical doctor or anything related to the health fields. I have a desktop computer that has several small fans running at all times inside the computer tower. The fans are on at all times keeping the computer cool. I wouldn’t say they are very loud in my opinion, just a low decibel sound. The computer tower is about 3 feet from my head resting on the floor. For the best way to explain, it would be like a low or low power vacuum cleaner running in the next room with my door open to the next room. I have seen the common decibel chart used for hearing called the "Decibel (Loudness) Comparison Chart". There are a lot of these charts out there to look at. I couldn’t guess the decibel range because I don’t know exactly where to assume the sound level would be without proper equipment. I would be shooting in the dark. It is just strange that the ear that is the loudest ringing is the ear facing my computer tower. Also, I am many hours a day on my computer as well.
I am not asking you to diagnose me or provide a clinical evaluation as a health care professional, I am just asking if ear ringing in your opinion can be caused under my circumstances.
Thank you!

I’d say that it’s possible. To test it, you may want to get some earplugs, wear them for a few days and see if the tinnitus subsides. The link below gives some other good tips for reducing the effects of this annoying condition.
