I’m 20% deaf in my left ear, and suffer severely from tinnitus. It was induced from severe head trauma in an ATV accident that I had when I was 16, I am now 19, have had lidocaine perfusion surgery once, and still suffer greatly from the condition. I’ve been on the anti-anxiety drug alprazolam (commonly known as Xanax) for several years now, and feel as if it is only making my depression worse. However, if it weren’t for the drug itself, then I would suffer severely from headaches, and ear pain beyond reason. At this point, I feel that I would rather be half deaf than have to endure the ringing each and everyday, all day long. I just don’t know if that would actually solve the problem. There are times when I feel that I was misdiagnosed and that the ringing isn’t actually due to the nerve damage, but a displacement of the hammer, anvil, and the stirrup. Any suggestions or help would be greatly appreciated.

ok well i have tinnitus from going to shows every other week locally and i wised up pretty quickly and i put toilet paper in my ears which really helps with how loud it is. the noise is bearable now but i would like to know how much twice a monthe concerts could do to my hearing in the future. when i went to shows before my tinnitus i would have ringing in the ears for about 3 days because i didn’t have anything protecting my ears, now i have hardly any ringing other than my normal tinnitus for about an hour. anyone give me any other details regarding to hearing safety and what i should expect to be able to hear when i am older?
btw i do listen to my ipod about an hour at about 2/5’s the way up and i listen to music fairly loud in my car for about 30 minutes a day.

It is just frightening to stand by and witness my gran battling to cope with ear ringing! The tinnitus is not the worst of it though, because she struggles to get her general health seems to be getting worse. It seems that as she is always so tired and up tight, she can’t sleep much and nowdays seems to catch every sickness that is going around. Can this be because of the tinnitus? I am looking for a tinnitus treatments right now.
